It will not be a farce if said that Discus fishes are considered king of all aquarium fish. The most distinguishing feature found in Discus fish is the kind of set pattern followed by the parents in raising their young one. Both the parents contribute in bringing up their young one and this is been discussed towards the end of this article.
Tropical discus fish is a kind of fish which is most of the time available in the Rio Solimoes, Rio Putumayo-Ica, and the Rio Amazonas in Brazil, Peru and Colombia. These fishes live or finds abode in calm, deep water which has submerged trees. This is in the water of Amazonia. This fish lives in shoals and in the tree bushes or branches. Many aquarists have dreamt of keeping Discus. But due to the scarceness and being high in price it is not so easy to fulfill their dream.
The shape of this fish is nearly circular with small mouth and has a different kind of upper head. These fish have the most beautiful color scheme. This species has three subspecies that can be differentiated because of the color pattern they have.
Tropical discus fish is in great demand because of its unique characteristics and shiny skin and it requires special care for its survival. If you plan to keep it in an aquarium tank then make sure the tank has lots of space for the fish to move around. They should be disturbed the least. It’s good if bog roots along with flowerpots be added in the tank.
The quality of water should be apt, should be soft and also somewhat acidic. It should be in between upper seventies and low eighties. Moreover, the filtration of water needs to be catered to. Variety of food may be given to the Tropical discus fish.
This fish is capable of producing more only after two to four years. They start breeding in the same tank only. They need to be kept in the same breeding aquarium tank and should not be transmitted to another tank. The little ones once born can start swimming in two to four days time.
The young ones of the other fishes feed on other tiny animals whereas the young ones of this fish depend on the secretion of the skin which is produced by their parents which basically is secreted by large skin glands. The little one do not swim freely too much. They keep themselves attached to the skin of their adults. Initially they are elongated and have a shape similar to a fish, but slowly they become rounded. They have a very fast growth and within three months time they grow as an adult.
